Neglect manifesteert zich dus als een onmogelijkheid aandacht te schenken of te reageren op stimuli die zich bevinden in selectieve gedeelten van de ruimte. Meestal gaat het om objecten of personen in de contralaterale ruimte van de laesie. Dit wil niet zeggen dat neglect niet kan voorkomen voor de ipsilaterale zijde. Heilman (2000) stelt echter wel dat ipsilaterale inattentie niet zo ernstig is als contralaterale inattentie. Parton, Malhotra & Husain (2004) en Plummer, Morris & Dunai (2003) beschrijven in hun reviews dat neglect het meeste voorkomt na een laesie in de rechter hemisfeer. …
