Monitoring van astma bij kinderen

Samenvatting

– De mate van astmacontrole staat centraal bij de monitoring van astma bij kinderen.
– Voor het meten van astmacontrole lijken de Asthma Control Test (ACT) en de Asthma Control Questionnaire (ACQ) geschikte instrumenten. Of hierdoor ook werkelijk klinische verbetering wordt bereikt is niet bekend.
– Aanbevolen wordt ten minste eenmaal per jaar spirometrie met reversibiliteitsmeting te verrichten. In de monitoring van astma is geen plaats voor routine bronchoprovocatietests.
– Het meten van stikstofmonoxide in uitademingslucht geeft een indruk van de mate van eosinofiele luchtwegontsteking. Toepassing van deze test bij astmamonitoring bij kinderen (aanpassen van inhalatiesteroïden) leidde in recent onderzoek niet tot betere astmacontrole.
