Locoregionale anesthesie bij kinderen

Samenvatting

Locoregionale anesthesie wordt in toenemende mate toegepast bij kinderen. Neuraxiale en perifere zenuwblokkades geven een uitstekende peri- en postoperatieve pijnstilling. Dit verkleint de kans op postoperatieve complicaties als ademhalingsproblemen, nausea, braken, verstoord slaappatroon en agitatie. Bij vrijwel alle chirurgische ingrepen kan locoregionale anesthesie worden toegepast. De indicatie hiervoor hangt af van de afweging tussen de risico's en de nadelen en voordelen van elke afzonderlijke techniek. Om complicaties als intoxicatie met een lokaal anestheticum of zenuwschade te voorkomen, is het van belang de voor de locoregionale anesthesie relevante anatomische en fysiologische verschillen met volwassenen te kennen en de juiste medicatie en materialen te gebruiken.
