Verslaving en artsen: van een toxische combinatie naar een superieur hulpprogramma

Samenvatting

Het is niet gemakkelijk als arts om te gaan met verslaving, niet voor de arts zelf en ook niet voor collega’s en naasten. In Noord-Amerika bestaat decennialange ervaring met Physician Health programma’s, waarbij artsen na adequate behandeling in een veilige omgeving worden begeleid. Hierdoor kan de overgrote meerderheid blijven werken. In Europa zijn de eerste initiatieven volop in ontwikkeling en deze bijdrage beschrijft de historie, werkwijze en achtergronden van een soortgelijk programma in Nederland.
