Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental condition characterized by features such as abnormalities in social functioning, difficulties in speaking and nonverbal communication, repetitive and restricted behaviors and interests, and possible sensory abnormalities (American Psychiatric Association & Association, 2013). Autistic children may show co-occurring conditions like gastrointestinal (GI) disorders and sleep issues, which can impact their overall well-being (Lai et al., 2019; Leader et al., 2022). ASD children may have different dietary intakes because of food selectivity and altered eating behaviors in comparison with non-autistic children due to the restricted interest and sensory abnormalities in ASD (Marí-Bauset et al. 2014; Nimbley et al., 2022; Plaza-Diaz et al., 2021). …
