Abstract

In dit artikel wordt aandacht besteed aan specifieke kenmerken van rouwverwerking bij wiegendood die zowel verschijnselen van posttraumatische stress–stoornis als van pathologische rouw betreffen. Vervolgens wordt kort ingegaan op het belang van hulpverlening aan gezinnen die dit meemaken. Aangegeven wordt in welke gevallen psychotherapeutische behandeling is geïndiceerd. Een kort overzicht wordt gegeven van stress– en rouwtheorieën op grond waarvan de behandeling wordt ingericht. Aan de hand van een uitgebreide casus wordt het verloop van een rouwbehandeling weergegeven. De verschillende stadia van de behandeling en de toegepaste therapeutische technieken worden toegelicht. Het artikel wordt afgesloten met een nabeschouwing en enkele aanbevelingen.
