Samenvatting

Tegen de achtergrond van kennis over pijnperceptie worden de huidige inzichten beschreven in het geven van analgetica bij grote chirurgische ingrepen. Leeftijdsafhankelijke verschillen in de zogenaamde hormonale en metabole stressrespons worden besproken, evenals de tot op heden aangetoonde zwakke correlatie tussen de doseringen van de gebruikte analgetica en de plasmaspiegels. In de toekomst kan kennis van het individuele metabolisme een bijdrage leveren aan het voorschrijven van analgetica.
