Samenvatting

Voor het beschrijven van bevindingen bij het onderzoek van de buik wordt een aantal vaste oriëntatie- of referentiepunten gebruikt. Zo worden de ribbenboog en processus xiphoideus gebruikt bij de craniale begrenzing van de buik, terwijl de spina iliaca anterior superior (SPIAS), de crista iliaca en de symphysis pubis de caudale begrenzing vormen. Voor het midden van de buik is de navel het belangrijkste referentiepunt. Bij het heffen van het hoofd kan de musculus rectus abdominis zichtbaar worden, als deze zich aan weerszijden van de linea alba aanspant. De laterale rand is soms te gebruiken als referentielijn.
