Samenvatting

De lever heeft een centrale functie bij verschillende belangrijke lichaamsprocessen en een bijbehorende unieke vaatvoorziening. Hoewel de lever slechts 3 procent van het totale lichaamsgewicht uitmaakt, ontvangt het orgaan een kwart van het hartminuutvolume via twee aanvoerende vaten, de arteria hepatica en de vena portae (poortader).
