Idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy (IDC) is a disease characterised by dilated, poorly contracting ventricles, in the absence of coronary artery disease or primary valvular disease, or other specified causes of myocardial dysfunction. The initial injury is often thought to be a myocarditis or intoxication, but this is seldom proven. When present, the disease usually becomes progressive with increasing symptoms of congestive heart failure.
