Het depressieve syndroom wordt volgens dsm-iv gediagnostiseerd als een aantal symptomen gelijktijdig voorkomt. Hierbij moet gedacht worden aan symptomen als een depressieve stemming, een vermindering van interesse of plezier, een verandering in gewicht, slaapstoornissen, psychomotore agitatie of vertraging, sterke vermoeidheid of verlies aan energie, gevoelens van waardeloosheid met disproportionele schuldgevoelens, verminderde vaardigheid tot denken, concentreren of beslissen, en terugkerende gedachten aan de dood. Bij veel cliënten zijn vooral negatieve verschijnselen zoals cognitieve traagheid, apathie en bewegingsarmoede nadrukkelijk aanwezig, terwijl bij anderen agitatie veel scherper op de voorgrond staat. Wat de meeste cliënten gemeen hebben is een hoge mate van lijdensdruk met veel cognitieve klachten en een vervlakte (tot afwezige) emotionele belevingswereld. …
