Extract

Klachten van een overactieve blaas (OAB) kunnen in belangrijke mate iemands levenskwaliteit verminderen. Het komt evenveel voor bij mannen als bij vrouwen. Het risico om er last van te hebben stijgt met de leeftijd (een derde van de 65-plussers heeft OAB). Een OAB contraheert onverwachts. Er is dus geen goede controle meer. Dit gaat gepaard met plotselinge heftige aandrang om te moeten plassen (urgency), resulterend in urineverlies (urge- of drangincontinentie). Er kan ook sprake zijn van ‘droge’ OAB waarbij wel de angst bestaat om urine te verliezen, maar waarbij dit nog wel voorkomen kan worden (dreigende urge- of drangincontinentie). In combinatie hiermee moet de patiënt frequent naar het toilet (frequency). Vooral de aandrang en angst voor incontinentie zijn verantwoordelijk voor een dalende levenskwaliteit. …
