Blijvende neuropsychologische schade na behandeling wegens leukemie of een hersentumor

semenvatting

Blijvende mentale defecten na een behandeling voor kanker op de kinderleeftijd komen vooral voor na een bestraling van de schedel. Hoe jonger de patiënt en hoe hoger de dosering, hoe groter de kans is op schade voor het cognitieve en maatschappelijke functioneren. Dit betekent dat vooral kinderen met een kwaardaardige hersentumor en patiënten die vóór 1984 zijn behandeld voor acute lymfatische leukemie, op volwassen leeftijd met veel en soms ernstige beperkingen worden geconfronteerd.
Ook psychische klachten komen bij deze twee groepen het meeste voor. Bij de overige volwassenen die als kind voor kanker zijn behandeld is de kwaliteit van leven meestal goed te noemen en is de prevalentie van psychische klachten niet (veel) hoger dan in de normale populatie.neuropsychologische schade, blijvende neuropsychologische schade langetermijneffecten kinderkanker, overlevenden van follow-up, langdurige psychologische klachten leven, kwaliteit van
